And so it begins….

The header on this website is “It’s All About The Journey“, whenever it starts and wherever it goes. But how about ‘When’ it starts ??? A fairly common question amongst the motorcycle internet groups is when did you start riding?? The answers range from “when I was a little kid” to “as soon as I retired…I always wanted a motorcycle”. We all have a story. My story is pretty easy…at 14 I rode my Dads new Honda CB160 into the back of his new ’66 Chevy Impala…the only damage was to my ego. At 15 Mike Spence (step-dad) came into my life and so did dirt bikes and then street bikes.  “It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine”…….

I took my son out dirt bike riding a few times when he was around two or three…it wasn’t easy finding a helmet to fit??!! But…the bug (Motorcycle Disease) didn’t take hold. Where did I go wrong??? Finally at Eighteen after renting a moped somewhere the lightbulb came on…hey, this is great!!! Pick him up at the airport, not a “Hi Dad, thanks for coming to pick me up”… first question was ” Hey Dad, is The Mighty 350 (my beloved old 1972 Honda CB350) still running?, can I ride it??”  From there it was Cross Country Traveling and Roadracing. My first thought was “what kind of monster did I create”?

Fast forward a generation…Grandkids here visiting for awhile and Granddaughter wants to go for a ride…cool. So, off to get a helmet that fits and onto a motorcycle. Just riding around the back yard and the smile on her face…priceless. Her older brother see’s how much fun she’s having and wants to give it a try…again BIG smiles.

A bunch of rides later, street and dirt, it’s time. The fun factor just went up off the scale…their own motorcycle at ages 9 and 12. The love of motorcycling is now instilled in their hearts. This is going to cost me a lot of money!!
